Position Overview

Aquatic staff at the City are the heart of the in water services and programs we offer. You are motivated, you work hard, and you like to have fun. You will play an important part in providing the kids and families we work with an unforgettable experience as you deliver our aquatic programs. As an Assistant Instructor you will teach alongside a Swim Instructor Guard during our Learn to Swim programs. You will have the opportunity to assist in the skill development of children, as they learn new skills and become more confident in the water.

 

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of safety supervision at all times.
  • Complete all necessary administration documentation thoroughly.
  • Attend all mandatory staff trainings.
  • Assist with class management and safety supervision during Instructional Learn to Swim programs under the guidance and direction of the aquatic instructor.
  • Respond as required to any aquatic emergency situations.
  • Assist in implementation of City wide events, such as swim meets, theme days, rentals, etc. as required.
  • Ensure that all aquatic qualifications remain current and on file.
  • General maintenance of pool deck and facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and requirements

  • Minimum Age: 15 years old
  • Certifications: Standard First Aid with CPR C and Bronze Cross
    • Must be willing to obtain Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructors certifications within 3 months of start date, and National Lifeguard certification within 6 months of start date
  • A Criminal Reference Check including Vulnerable Sector Check will also be required at the time of hiring.

Hours of Work

  • Minimum of 10 hours per week
  • Flexible work hours are required as you may be scheduled for evening and/or weekend work

Pay/Salary
$17.05 per hour
