Position Overview

Resumes are being accepted for the position of Supervisor, Corporate Building Maintenance. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Building Maintenance, the successful candidate will lead and manage the City's facilities operations, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, and fostering a positive work environment. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, budget management, maintenance oversight, and quality assurance. This role also involves coordinating preventative maintenance programs, providing input for Council reports, and developing a network of contacts. Overall, the position supports the long-term direction and efficient operation of City buildings and facilities.

 

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the maintenance and repair operations, and capital works in all City facilities.
  • Provide leadership consistent with the City’s Corporate Values, and foster an inclusive, respectful, and motivating work environment.
  • Ensure proper work scheduling, performance feedback, problem-solving assistance, and assist with career development and training for program technical staff.
  • Ensure consistency with Collective Agreements, health and safety practices, employment standards, and other related regulations and corporate practices as required.
  • Identify patterns in maintenance issues/incidents for each City building, while recommending solutions to the Manager to resolve repetitive maintenance problems.
  • Provide input for the Corporate Building Maintenance Division for the establishment of long-term direction and strategic orientation for Community Services.
  • Consolidate and review the capital budget of all City Departments related to facilities renovation, expansion, and improvement.
  • Prepare the annual work plan and capital and operating budgets with recommendations to the Manager for approval.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of all City buildings, and leased spaces with specifications of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance tasks to be performed.
  • Monitor the performance of the Division to ensure alignment with workplans and within budget.
  • Assist the Manager in establishing a quality assurance program to monitor the delivery of building maintenance service to all City Departments.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of a preventative maintenance/life cycle program for all City buildings, coordinating and consolidating inputs to the overall program.
  • Provide input to reports and issues to be presented to Council.
  • Assist the Manager in the ongoing identification and tracking of best practices related to property management of City buildings and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain a contact network covering: 1) suppliers, vendors, and contractors, 2) counterparts in other municipalities, and 3) representatives of trade and professional associations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Successful completion of a college-level apprenticeship program in a mechanical or electrical field, or post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Considerable experience in the maintenance of facilities and buildings.
  • Experience supervising staff or leading work teams, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Experience interpreting construction drawings and maintenance/operations manuals.
  • Must possess a valid Class G driver’s license with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract before their start date to confirm their license is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last five years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if they meet our requirements
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation and specifications.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders, the media, and the general public.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to develop, oversee, and use a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Knowledge of maintenance principles, practices, concepts, and options, including all areas within maintenance planning, scheduling, coordination, and optimization.
  • Knowledge of the building code, fire code, and other related codes.

Hours of work

35 hours per week Monday to Friday.

 

Pay/Salary

Non-Union Grade 6: $94,319.68- $117,899.60
