Position Overview

We are currently accepting resumes for the temporary position of Fire Solution and Applications Analyst. Reporting to the Manager, Business Solutions, this position will be responsible for overseeing and managing the information technology systems for the Guelph Fire Department.


Key duties and responsibilities

  • Interpret and translate business requests associated with Fire Services, streamline business processes, and work closely with Users/Managers and/or System Analysts to provide integrated solutions.
  • Lead, coordinate, and manage change initiatives related to system enhancements.
  • Develop, design, test, implement, and sustain quality solutions within Fire Services IT systems and databases.
  • Analyze and implement system updates associated with revision maintenance, security, interfaces, and infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the development of system policies and overall Fire Services application architecture.
  • Lead or participate in upgrades and rollouts of applications.
  • Work within existing software change management procedures to implement software updates, packaging, and deployments.
  • Administer key Fire Department IT systems, including the records management system, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), mobile data terminals, and infrastructure supporting both primary and backup 911 dispatch centers, ensuring reliability and performance across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and subject matter experts to ensure the Fire Department’s records management and dispatch systems consistently meet performance, reliability, and support expectations.
  • Act as technical and/or project lead on Fire Department’s related IT change initiatives.
  • Serve as the lead technical contact during unexpected system outages, coordinating IT, Fire Services, and vendor resources to restore operations swiftly. Conduct post-incident reviews to identify root causes and document recommendations to prevent future disruptions.
  • Oversee vendor service level agreements and contracts to ensure compliance with performance standards. Support contract negotiations and manage agreements throughout the application lifecycle, ensuring vendors meet established service levels.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, integration maps, and user guides to support Fire Department IT systems; facilitate staff training on departmental applications; and assist in evaluating RFPs and drafting terms of reference.
  • Collaborate with technology vendors to manage and maintain communications systems such as telephony and radio.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications and requirements

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Computer Science or other related discipline.
  • Considerable experience working with server administration, computer aided dispatch systems, records management, corporate telephony (Avaya/Cisco), and mobile technologies. Candidates with an equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • A valid Class G drivers licence with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.
  • Experience with Windows, Microsoft Server operating systems, Active Directory, SQL, Motorola trunked radio systems and mobile technologies.
  • Proven experience managing IT projects end-to-end, from initial planning and design through implementation and successful delivery of innovative solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders including all levels of staff, management, vendors, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also contributing effectively within collaborative environments.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities, with a proven capacity to solve complex problems and make sound decisions in dynamic environments.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments in order to meet deadlines.
  • Experience working with or in Emergency Services will be an asset.
  • Certifications such as A+ Certification, MCSE, Avaya telephony, Cisco networking and telephony and ITIL would be an asset.

Hours of work
35 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Occasional planned after-hours work is required outside of the standard work schedule in order to support system upgrades, enhancements and new implementations. First point of contact for after-hour application incidents with responsibility to initiate appropriate action.


Pay/Salary
Non-union Grade: 5 Rate: $83,938.40 - $104,923.00
