Position Overview

The City of Guelph Recreation Division offers a variety of recreational programs for people of all ages and abilities in weekly sessions throughout the year.

 

Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator Youth Services, successful candidates will lead fun and engaging programs for youth ages 12-17, while creating an inclusive environment for all participants.

We offer a variety of programs at various locations including but not limited to, the West End Community Centre, Victoria Road Recreation Centre, Evergreen Seniors Community Centre, Guelph Sports Dome and Shelldale Family Gateway.


Hours of work


This is a part-time position scheduled for up to 20 hours per week, including weekdays, weekday evenings, or weekends, based on the program schedule and program registration.

 

We are looking for qualified program instructors in the following program areas/skill sets. This includes certain immediate program needs but is not limited to other programs.

 

Sports and Recreation: Responsible for facilitating instructional lessons for weekly sports classes or facilitating drop-in programs such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, badminton, ball hockey, multisport, etc.

 

Cooking & Meal Programs: Responsible for facilitating weekly classes that include meal preparation, cooking, baking, discussions around healthy eating habits, cooking/baking techniques, etc. Programs include Monday Youth Meal, children’s cooking/baking programs, etc. Must acquire Safe Food Handling Certification.

 

General Youth Programs: Responsible for leading engaging, social and skill building youth programs such as Youth Drop In, Youth Leadership Development, Youth Art Lab, etc.


Key duties and responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming environment for all participants
  • Develop and facilitate weekly program plans that are age appropriate
  • Facilitate engaging and creative programming for participants
  • Ensure facilities, program supplies and equipment are maintained and kept in an acceptable, safe condition
  • Communicate with the program team/ coordinator
  • Provide standard first aid and fill out incident/accident forms
  • Provide fully inclusive program to participants of all abilities and skill levels
  • Ensure participant confidentiality
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications and requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Previous experience working with children and youth (age 12-17)
  • Previous experience in program planning, development, and implementation
  • Relevant skills and experience related to programs listed above
  • Ability to respect and maintain participant confidentiality
  • A satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check is required at time of offer
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
  • Safe Food Handler’s Certificate for all cooking programs
  • Full availability is required for scheduled program day and time Pay/Salary


Rate of Pay
$20.20 - $21.26 per hour
