Position Overview

Coordinates and supports a team of Camp Team Leads and Camp Counsellors in the planning and delivery of dynamic recreation programs, including planning and conducting training, matching and monitoring participants to inclusion staff, supervising and supporting inclusion camp staff, and addressing various operational needs. Takes a lead role in ensuring clear and effective communication among camp participants, parents/guardians, camps staff and volunteers, and greater Recreation Services team. At times, this role may be required to work within a specific camp; must be able to engage and participate in all activities (including swimming in up to chest deep water).


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Takes the lead role in coordinating Camp and Inclusion staff training, including scheduling, content creation, delivery and evaluation using an inclusion lens.
  • Supports the training of all staff in behaviour management skills and program modification specific to each camp and campers needs.
  • In advance of program delivery, reviews and approves each camp’s weekly program schedule to ensure program modifications and adaptations are available.
  • Communicates with parents to complete participant intake paperwork; matches participants to staff based on identified need.
  • In partnership with Camp Facilitator, assigns shifts and work locations to Inclusion Camp Counsellors to meet staffing shortfalls due to staff absence or increased participant need.
  • Provides coaching and mentorship to Inclusion Camp Team Leaders and Inclusion Counsellors.
  • Visits each camp site regularly; is available to support each site’s inclusion needs through problem-solving as required.
  • Addresses and responds appropriately to situations or concerns identified by participants, parents/guardians, or Camp Team Leads. Escalates to Recreation Coordinator or Supervisor as required.
  • Reviews site safety checks; identifies methods to address safety concerns.
  • Creates payroll schedule; reviews and submits time sheets for all Inclusion Camp staff.
  • Ensures the Guidelines and Procedures Manual are adhered to by all camp staff, follow-ups with individuals as required.
  • Provides an end of summer Camp Report using feedback from the camp team.
  • Attends all required training sessions.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience working in a summer day camp environment, preferably in a leadership role
  • Outgoing, enthusiastic and engaging personality
  • Ability to work at various locations across the city
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to provide a positive, respectful and enjoyable space for all individuals
  • Valid CPR Level C and Standard First Aid (or willing to obtain upon hiring), must be valid for employment duration
  • A satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check is required dated after the time of offer and before the first day of camp programs
  • A valid Class G or G2 driver’s license with two years driving experience and a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their license is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements


Hours of Work

Full-time hours (40 hours/week) starting May 4 to September 4, 2026. Evenings and weekends may be required.


Pay/Salary

$21.42 per hour

Interview dates are scheduled for January 21, 22 and 24, 2026 (subject to change). Pending the need for additional staff, a second round of interviews will be scheduled for early February.
