Position Overview

Resumes are being accepted for the position of Supervisor, Food and Beverage. The position is responsible for the overall governance of Food and Beverage Services at Sleeman Centre. The Supervisor works with multiple vendors and external organizations under the direction of the Manager, Sleeman Centre. The Supervisor, Food and Beverage will play a key role in stakeholder relationships and establishing the Sleeman Centre as the marquee Sports and Entertainment venue in Guelph. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City’s Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Vision for an inclusive, connected and prosperous city.


Key duties and responsibilities

  • Lead and empower staff and volunteers through recruitment, training, coaching, communication, and performance management.
  • Assist Manager in the on-going identification and tracking of “best practices” (including benchmarking of related facilities, i.e. food and beverage services and operations, suite operations, in other municipalities) make recommendations to the Manager for applications to support continuous improvement efforts to the food and beverage operations.
  • Prepare daily work schedules for assigned employees and volunteers in Sleeman Centre Food and Beverage operations.
  • Develop annual work and business plans for the Sleeman Centre and provide recommendations to the Manager.
  • Monitor operational and Food and Beverage budgets, analyze variances, and take corrective action to ensure financial accountability.
  • Create innovative strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets for Food and Beverage.
  • Ensure all polices and regulations of the AGCO are followed.
  • Develop Food and Beverage categories at other City facilities including City Hall.
  • Manage all point of sale and inventory software related to Food and Beverage.
  • Lead inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and reconciliation strategies when managing programs and services, in collaboration with local organizations and equity deserving community, to better understand and address barriers to increase participation and opportunities.
  • Assist with the execution of marketing and sales plans to maximize revenue, usage, and customer service satisfaction; collect and analyze data related to customer feedback and effectiveness of marketing and sales initiatives.
  • Respond to emergencies, inquiries, and complaints while ensuring excellent customer service and maintaining positive relationships with the public, clients, agencies, and staff.
  • Be responsible for the implementation of various strategies throughout the division and the corporation.
  • Be responsible to work and ensure that all staff supervise work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, the City of Guelph Policies & Procedures including Occupational Health, Safety and Workplace Violence Policy, as well as established industry guidelines.
  • Participate in or lead special projects or duties as required by the department.
  • Other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications and requirements

  • Considerable experiences related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through post-secondary education in business administration, Food and Beverage or a related discipline and experience.
  • Candidates with equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Supervisory experience in restaurant and food service management including working with both union and non-union employees with the ability to display a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, tact and diplomacy.
  • A valid Class G driver’s licence with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver/s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of products and services through concessions, Beer carts and restaurants.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of municipal policies, procedures, and operations, with the ability to research, develop, and recommend updates related to Sleeman Centre service.
  • Experience managing budgets, balancing Food and Beverage revenue over expenses along with reporting on monthly variances.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of projects.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work on your own, in a team environment and with changing user groups.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of a supervisor’s responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR/AED/First Aid certificate.
  • A satisfactory police record/vulnerable sector check will be required at the time of job offer.


Hours of work
The regular work week will consist of 35 hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. After-hours availability to respond to issues and emergencies is also required including participation in an on-call rotation.
