Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, successful candidates guide a team to plan and deliver a dynamic Learn to Skate program for children, youth and adults of all abilities.

Position Overview

In this role you will lead a team of Learn to Skate Instructors to coordinate inclusive Learn to Skate programs for a range of ages and abilities. This includes supporting the development and implementation of Learn to Skate program plans to ensure learners make get the most out of their experience and develop a love for skating. You will also work to develop a well unified team and ensure effective communication with and between the Recreation Coordinator, instructors, parents/guardians and participants.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, revise and implement fun and dynamic lesson plans that utilize safe and proper form, technique and progression.
  • Assist in the training, monitoring and daily coaching of the Learn to Skate coaches.
  • Assist with all aspects of programming including planning, set up/take down, running programs, active participation and evaluation.
  • Assess skaters’ skill level in the first lesson and assign to appropriate groups.
  • Teach fundamental skating skills in a progressive manner
  • Ensure the safety of participants
  • Complete administrative work in advance of and throughout the session start date.
  • Act as first point of contact to address incidents, accidents and emergencies
  • Attend and participate in meetings and trainings

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in a recognized Skating Program, including technical competence performing skating skills.
  • Experience working with non-skaters, beginners, and advanced skaters in a learn to skate environment.
  • Previous experience with program planning, development and implementation
  • Adaptable, patient, and innovative approach to work
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to respect and maintain participant confidentiality.
  • Experience working with individuals living with a disability is an asset.
  • Valid CPR Level C and Standard First Aid
  • A satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check is required at time of offer
  • Full availability is required for scheduled program days and times.

Hours of Work

  • Seasonal position, September to March
  • Mon-Fri; between 4:30-8 p.m. (approx. 10-20 hours/week)

Pay/Salary
$38.75 per hour
